Lamond-Riggs Library Hosts First of Sewing Series Workshops

Sessions Geared to Various Ages

Hours before an historic blizzard, excited customers came to the library to engage in a creative sewing collective. Women from ages 11 to 60 learned how to do a basic running stitch, whipstitch, sew a button, and create a pocket to fit a pair of glasses. The majority of participants completed their eyeglass cases. They were proud to have made an artistic case that is used daily.

Picture Books That Span Cultures

Multicultural picture books are important. When young children read these books they realize similarities that they share with people from around the world. Emotions are universal. They promote empathy and the desire to learn about customs and cultures in foreign countries. In today's multicultural world, knowledge of other cultures is not only important, it is essential. We truly live in a global world.
